FAQs

“Joe has built us a beautiful loft extension and fantastic wardrobes, all on time and in budget. Couldn’t recommend him enough!”

Can I convert my loft?

In most instances yes, there are different routes you can take to convert your loft, if there is sufficient head height you can have a more simple skylight conversion but sometimes you need to add a dormer in order to achieve adequate headroom and in order to fit an en-suite. If we arrange a consultation all of the options can be discussed.

Will I need Planning or Building Regulations ?

Planning permission for a loft conversion in a typical Bristol property is rarely needed as it usually it falls under permitted development. There can be certain circumstances when planning permission is required and when a consultation is made and we can learn more about your property we can check wether planning permission is needed. All our lofts are designed and built to meet building regulations, the initial design is calculated by our associated structural engineer and once work commences we work closely with Total Building Control Ltd in order to achieve a high quality build that reaches all regulations and provide you with a final certificate at the end of the project.

How long will it take?

Most projects are aimed to be completed in under 8 weeks, smaller skylight conversions will be less. Many customers take advantage of our joinery background and have built in wardrobes etc which can add time to the project.

How much disruption will there be to my home?

We try our best to minimise disruption, the first phases of the project are done by accessing and loading materials through the scaffold and into the roof space, we try to leave it as long as we can before making the stairwell opening and therefor entering the house, this is the most disruptive stage and we take a lot of care in sealing off the area to insure when done there is no mess. We endeavour to keep a clean and safe site throughout the project.

Whats the process?

We would organise an initial free consultation, discuss ideas and what you would like to achieve and even draw out scaled drawings. Once we have an initial plan we can then provide a free quotation, if this is to your satisfaction and you would like to proceed we would go over the specification and make sure everything is perfectly clear and you are happy.

The next step is to arrange a start date and have structural engineers drawings drawn up and contact with the building control regulator would be made and organised with the local council all of which will be taken care of by ourselves and included in the price of the project.

We operate on staged payments and a payment plan will be made that you are happy with before work commences.

After we have completed the last phase of your conversion. We will arrange for the building inspector to make the final inspection and sign off the work. You are then issued with a building regulation certificate.

Can we see a previous loft?

The proof is in the pudding and we are a firm believer in this! We welcome you to view previous lofts that we have made and as we have great relations with our previous customers this is never a problem so its something that we try and encourage!
