A low-ceiling dormer conversion in Horfield, proof that a loft under two metres can still be a beautiful, comfortable room.

The brief

The owners wanted a proper bedroom and en-suite from a loft with limited head height in their Horfield (BS7) home, without it ever feeling cramped.

The challenge

The low ceiling, under two metres, and the staircase were the real challenges; a standard stair simply wouldn’t work with the space.

What we did

We designed quirky bespoke stairs to make the access work, used natural wooden floors and built in plenty of storage, including in the stair section. The room is finished with a beautiful, big en-suite shower room.

The outcome

A beautiful, characterful room with a big en-suite shower, a great example of how a low ceiling doesn’t limit how lovely a loft can be.

  • Joe and his team did a great job on our loft conversion and 1st floor renovations. Our conversion came with the added complexity of lowering the first-floor ceilings to create enough space for the loft, but Joe took it all in his stride.Throughout the build, Joe was incredibly accommodating when we asked to include additional work, seemingly unfazed by any request and capable of making it a reality. His budgeting and organisation were excellent from start to finish, which no doubt helped us avoid any issues in what was quite an extensive project!It was a pleasure having Joe and his team in our home, they were respectful, hardworking, and clearly took pride in their work.
